Design and site inspection of CFRP strengthening scheme
End Client:
Moy Park

A fire on the ground floor at a food-processing factory damaged the precast reinforced concrete floor plate units. Following an assessment of the applied loading and the condition of the structure, Tony Gee designed a scheme to reinstate the original flexural capacity of the floor using pultruded carbon fibre composite strips as external reinforcement.

The speed with which the laminates could be installed was fundamentally important in allowing the owner of the structure to return the building to its intended use in the minimum possible time.

The project is believed to be the first use of carbon fibre composites for strengthening a structure in Northern Ireland.
