The Port Eglinton viaduct is the largest bridge being constructed as part of the M74 Completion. It will carry both carriageways of the M74 over a number of surface streets and rail lines.
Tony Gee has provided independent checking services for Network Rail, to ensure the safety of their train lines under the launched section. Regular communication between parties was essential, especially with reference to any changes in design as the project progressed.
The section of viaduct concerned will have a main span of over 136 m once installed. The proposal involves constructing the bridge over the existing viaduct and then, with the use of temporary trestles, launching the 201 m long section, via strand jacks, into position over the line.
