Two highway bridges originally built in the late 1920ai??i??s that carry the A40 Western Avenue over the busy railway lines at Wales Farm Road and Perryn Road needed replacing in order to manage todayai??i??s volume of traffic.

Tony Gee was responsible for the design of the temporary footbridges, the design check of the existing bridge stability during demolition, temporary traffic alignment, and Category III checking of various temporary works packages for this challenging and complex scheme.

Every day some 100,000 vehicles travel this route in and out of London and 800 trains pass beneath the bridges, so a specific construction sequence was devised in order to maintain traffic and rail operations throughout the project, whilst minimising disruption to local residents.
